Well, 2025 certainly flew by and with it, we staged the usual eleven official outings and introduced two new trophies, the Richie Gold Shield and the Charlie Upton Shield.

Our official website ( www.houtbaygolfclub.co.za ) details the winners of all these competitions and whom we congratulate on their victories.
Our now annual par-3 competition held at the Hazendal Golf Club at the end of October was won by yours truly, with a “staggering” 40 points off a 10-handicap. But just 1 point ahead of Gareth Poggenpoel !
Then it was our prestigious Tramway weekend at the end of November… the AGM, dinner and auction was indeed successful with a few amendments to our constitution being successfully agreed to… this being the only way I’ll get you to visit our website!
Sunday’s golf was held in fairly windy conditions but not nearly as bad as originally feared. Two members netted 71 points with Craig Cerrf (83 off 12 ) pipping Scotty Campbell due to the lower handicap. Third on a net 72 was john Sheraton.
The Dax Bailey consortium was the successful bidder having outbid all to successfully place their funds on the golfers who finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd!
CHANGES FOR 2026
Green Fee deposits
Wayne has had to take quite some time in ensuring our green fee payments are in the account in order for the club to pay the respective golf clubs. The committee is to enforce the following timeframe for payments. Green fees are to be paid on the Friday – yes, some 10 days before the outing – in order for the funds to be cleared for onward EFT.
Scorecard Ruling:
Most course scorecards have 3 boxes for handicaps, Handicap Index (HI), Course Handicap (CH) and Playing Handicap (PH).
Please use these boxes to add your HI, CH and your PH for the day and stipulate the colour tee you will be playing off (R/B/W/Y)
For those of you who have 2/4 shot penalties, could you please make sure that you minus these penalties and stipulate it as your PH.
All 4 balls will need to hand in 2, fully completed (as per above) and signed scorecards.
All rounds should be opened and completed in the handicap app.
This all for transparency and to make sure points are allocated correctly and there are no discrepancies. Failure to adhere to the above could result in disqualification from the round or any running competition.
Subscriptions
Most subscriptions are paid at the Tramway weekend – but if a member is not available and does not participate, the subscription becomes due by the first outing 2026.
New Shirts
Plans are well under way for new shirts, and we are indeed fortunate to be receiving quantities of Buffelsfontein Brandy and Belgravia Gin from Peter Harris of Halewood International.
These bottles we will be retailing to you the member at R120 each and are available from John Philander. Contact John for your purchases.
