Erinvale Golf Course player putting

May/June 2025 Newsletter

Once again a real privilege to play at Erinvale in mid-May and the course and the weather did not disappoint. Despite recent hollow-tyning the course was in great condition.

And the scores reflected by the winner/s bore testimony to this. I have always thought that Erinvale was an extremely difficult eighteen holes.

Playing off the white tees saw the winner of the Percy W Day trophy, Wayne Maggott top the leaderboard with a really impressive 48 points – winning on a count out from Jerome Mausling who also notched up 48 points. Third on an equally impressive 45 points was John Philander, who also recorded the only 2-club of the day.

June’s outing at Devon Vale went ahead despite the previous day’s extreme weather conditions. And we were blessed with very little precipitation throughout the 18 holes. Damp underfoot conditions yes, but that apart the course played extremely well. And thanks to all the golfers who pitched despite the possibility of no golf!

Hugh Crichton-Stuart excelled in the conditions and scored 35 points to win the Norman Sivertsen Trophy. Joint runners-up on 33 points were Andre Makka and Nathier Fortune. Peter Grey and Thys Bosman recorded 2-clubs.

And it was great to welcome new members Jared French and Andre Hector to the club, as well as seeing past members Bryan Leach, Shaun Vos and Derrick Mitchell at the outings.

Scorecard Ruling:

  • Most course scorecards have 3 boxes for handicaps, Handicap Index (HI), Course Handicap (CH) and Playing Handicap (PH).
  • Please use these boxes to add your HI, CH  and your PH for the day and stipulate the colour tee you will be playing off (R/B/W/Y)
  • For those of you who have 2/4 shot penalties, could you please make sure that you minus these penalties and stipulate it as your PH.
  • All 4 balls will need to hand in 2, fully completed (as per above) and signed scorecards.
  • All rounds should be opened and completed in the handicap app.
  • This all for transparency and to make sure points are allocated correctly and there are no discrepancies.
  • Failure to adhere to the above could result in disqualification from the round or any running competition.

Rules of Golf

  • Yes, they are plentiful and most of us have been playing golf for some time and should know at least the basics.
