A rather interesting outing at Somerset West Golf Club in February, indeed a tale of two – nines. The front
nine around the clubhouse was calm and warm with the back nine on the new layout played in a
gale-force wind.
Well obviously these conditions suited Scott Campbell who blazed round the 18 holes with a gross
score of 76 off his 14-handicap, with at least two birdies as he won 2 x 2-clubs.
Also finding these conditions to their liking was Jan-Hugo Roothman (2nd) on 45 points and Craig Cerff (3rd) on 44 points. Scotty was NTP on the 9th and Nigel Kees put his tee-shot closest on the 11th.
NEXT OUTING
Our next outing is on the 16th March, a morning tee-off at the Strand Golf Club – put your money on
Scott Campbell if the wind blows! And submit your entry/entries asap.
FOLLOWING OUTING
Following the non-placement of nearest the pins and nearest the pin in 2 on Rondebosch’s part, we
are repeating an outing there on the 13 April 2025.
GREEN FEES
Once again green fees of R400 into the club’s account timeously, and I must emphasise “timeously” as clubs require the financial confirmation a few days before the actual outing.
THE “RICHIE GOLD” SHIELD
A new event on our calendar – for which there is no new outing – is a match-play tournament that will be played over many many months. And the shield for this competition is to be named the Richie Gold Shield to honour all his work in keeping the club on its feet over the past fifteen or more years.

To add to our competitions this year, as the committee, we decided to add a K/O format starting at our Strand outing in March (members with a valid handicap only). The format will be based on Stableford points. Once all participating players have confirmed their entry ( final date for submission is 12 th March ) the committee will enter those names into a draw.
This draw will then put you up against another member/opponent. Should you win your “match”, you will then move on to the next round.
Points of note:
- Knock Out Competition – Same as our regular outings: Stableford points
- Members to confirm their participation before the Strand outing
- Committee to do the initial draw
- Matches must be played at the same outing
- Winners proceed through to the next round
- Below is the format of the tournament
