Wellington Golf Club

February 2026 Newsletter

Our February outing scheduled for a first time visit to the Wellington Golf Club was most enjoyable. The initial thinking to change our golf course at this time of year was the curse of the south-easter – which at our usual venue is quite prevalent! Wellington was indeed quite warm and from reports there was not much wind in Somerset West!

However, despite being just a little further to travel it was well worth the trip just to enjoy the change – especially as it’s a nine-hole course where if you did not know the layout very well, you could be better prepared for the second nine!

Very well prepared was our winner of the day and recipient of the Bertie, Vivie and Gerry Brand Trophy was Carlo Prins with a very respectable 38 points off his handicap of 12. Joint second on 36 points were Jordan Gilham Law ( 18 ) and Andre du Plooy ( 12 ).

CHANGES FOR 2026

No “Gimme” putts… putt out as you are playing the field!

Green Fee deposits

Wayne has had to take quite some time in ensuring our green fee payments are in the account in order for the club to pay the respective golf clubs. The committee is to enforce the following timeframe for payments. Green fees are to be paid on the Friday – yes, some 10 days before the outing – in order for the funds to be cleared for onward EFT.

Scorecard Ruling:

  • Most course scorecards have 3 boxes for handicaps, Handicap Index (HI), Course Handicap (CH) and Playing Handicap (PH).
  • Please use these boxes to add your HI, CH and your PH for the day and stipulate the colour tee you will be playing off (R/B/W/Y)
  • All 4 balls will need to hand in 2, fully completed (as per above) and signed scorecards.
  • All rounds should be opened and completed in the handicap app.

It was indeed that hot…..at Wellington

Our next outing is at the Strand Golf Club on the 8th March and a 7.00 am tee-off due to some administrative maneauvres. Enter asap through the club’s social media channels.

Our Langebaan outing is scheduled for the weekend of 18 and 19 April 2026. On the Saturday morning we take on the local club for the Goodwin Cup and our monthly outing is on the Sunday morning.

Twelve pairs will be selected in an attempt to retain the trophy against Langebaan, but there will be extra slots in the Langebaan morning competition for any extra HBGC members travelling up the West Coast for the weekend.

Costs to be advised in due course.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Most subscriptions are paid at the Tramway weekend – but if a member is not available and does not participate, the subscription becomes due by the first outing 2026.

NEW SHIRTS

Plans are well under way for new shirts, and we are indeed fortunate to be receiving quantities of Buffelsfontein Brandy and Belgravia Gin from Peter Harris of Halewood International.
These bottles we will be retailing to you the member at R120 each and are available from John Philander. Contact John for your purchases.
