September – October 2025 Newsletter

At long last a HBGC Newsletter… and on which we report on two outings.

In September we visited the very hospitable Kuils River Golf Club where Thys Bosman won the Walters Cup with a score of 36 points and in October we played the equally impressive Bellville course where Garth Roberts won the Valentia trophy with his 41 points.

And congratulations to Carl Schreuder who won the inaugural KO competition and with this the inaugural Richie Gold Shield.

Please be aware that this year’s Tramway Dinner has had to be scheduled on the Saturday night – 29 November 2025 – due to a rather busy period of events at the Westlake Golf Club. This has of course, has its benefits as there might be the opportunity not to have to go home that night and then be able to move straight into “chapel” on Sunday morning.

Costs for the Tramway weekend :

  • Golf on Sunday 30th November ( tee off from 11:20 am ): R420,00
  • Dinner on Saturday 29th November ( from 6.00 pm ): R230,00
  • Subscriptions from all participants: R100,00
  • Please advise availability through our social platforms and pay into the club’s account from 1st November as our books close on 31 October.
  • And will all members who are in possession of a HBGC trophy please bring it to the Tramway weekend, either the dinner or the golf.

CHANGES FOR 2026

Green Fee deposits

Wayne has had to take quite some time in ensuring our green fee payments are in the account in order for the club to pay the respective golf clubs. The committee is to enforce the following timeframe for payments: Green fees are to be paid on the Friday – yes, some 10 days before the outing – in order for the funds to be cleared for onward EFT.

Scorecard Ruling

Most course scorecards have 3 boxes for handicaps, Handicap Index (HI), Course Handicap (CH) and Playing Handicap (PH).

Please use these boxes to add your HI, CH  and your PH for the day and stipulate the colour tee you will be playing off (R/B/W/Y)

For those of you who have 2/4 shot penalties, could you please make sure that you minus these penalties and stipulate it as your PH.

All 4 balls will need to hand in 2, fully completed (as per above) and signed scorecards.

All rounds should be opened and completed in the handicap app.

This all for transparency and to make sure points are allocated correctly and there are no discrepancies. Failure to adhere to the above could result in disqualification from the round or any running competition. This will be re-enforced in 2026.

No Changes for 2026

A decision taken a few years back is that to win a trophy / competition at Hout Bay Golf Cub, members must have an official SAGA handicap. And that to calculate your handicap on the day, the calculation is recorded from your current official Handicap Index.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are paid at the Tramway weekend. If a member does not attend, the subscription becomes due by the first outing 2026.

New Shirts

Plans are under way for new shirts, and we are indeed fortunate to be receiving quantities of Buffelsfontein Brandy and Belgravia Gin from Peter Harris of Halewood International.

These bottles we will be retailing to you the member at R120 each and are available from John Philander. Contact John for your purchases.
